Officials: Most troops out of Iraq in 18 months

I was talking with a friend the other day about the war in Iraq, and i was shocked to find at how little he understood of war and the political process involved. i guess having the amazing history teachers i had growing up i was fortunate enough to comprehend the bulk of what i have been hearing. Obama plans to start removing troops as early as this week in order to enact his new exit strategy. the exit strategy calls for leaving a large contingent of troops behind, between 30,000 and 50,000 troops, to advise and train Iraqi security forces and to protect U.S. interests.

the thing that makes me slightly angry about this is that Obama won enormous amounts of support by pledging to have troops out 16 months after elected but this new plan of his would put that schedule 3 months behind. so unless he can do some serious catching up i still feel cheated. but i guess that is the nature of politics.

Shooting on Mardi Gras

An infant and at least five other people were shot Tuesday along a parade route packed with Mardi Gras revelers.



Now what kind of person...unfortunately the article does not attribute the shooting to gang violence or if the intended targets were the people, but the two men who fired into the crowd are in custody. it's just kinda crazy that this sorta stuff happens and parades and such. and it's no wonder that the troops don't feel supported by Americans when stuff like this is happening in our own streets. It's also terrible that this is headline news for today, like i cant find something positive about some kid winning a trophy. It;s gottabe that a baby was shot?

US recession lasting into 2010?

US Federal Reserve chief Ben Bernanke has warned Congress that without the right policies from the government, the US recession could last into 2010.

but! if the Obama administration can put forth policies to give us economic balance 2010 could be a year of recovery. all of this hanging of the threads of the central banking system and getting credit and financial markets to operate more normally again. if these things happen will 2009 be the end of the recession and 2010 be one of recovery. Mr Bernanke is doing everything he can to make sure that legislator and other key individuals know what must be done if this recession is ever to end. you can read more about it here.

gossage

so i totally forget what we were talking about in class when Gossage came up. but he is very famous for taking pictures of things and places that make us remember. to engage us in the piece and force i to wonder or remember what happened her. the pieces abotu the Berlin wall are said to be his most important and has unquestionable influence on all of his subsequent work.

DINOSAURS???

When i first stumbled up[on this i didn't really know what to make of it at first. is it a joke? did some fancy photographer photoshop these images? Incidentally there is a temple in Cambodia. the Ta Prohm Temple. with the very clear depiction of a stegosaurus. this is further proof that dinosaurs were not totally extinct thousands of years ago, that maybe it has only been hundreds, or that maybe in some far off isolated forest some dinosaurs still exist.

what attracts me to wedding photos in an attempt to find contemporary artists? maybe I'm being cynical but i respect the lie she is trying to tell us, in a nation where more than half of our marriages end in divorce we need people who can at least give a window to that word we call love.

a fasination?

I don't really know what fascinated me about this man other then i find some odd sense of romanticism and heroism of being a war photographer. I guess if i had to put it into words not everyone could deal with being this sort of photographer.
